Holiday vaginosis
“After the vacation, I began to feel periodic itching in the area of intimate organs and unusual discharge. I could not get infected, there were no intimate contacts. What could be my problem? ”
Risk factors
Summer is a time of exacerbation of vaginosis and vaginitis. For various reasons, normal bacteria can disappear in the vagina and multiply conditionally harmful ones. They can “nap” for a long time in the body, but at some point become more active. Because of this, discharge with an unpleasant odor, itching and other manifestations appear.
A provoking factor in the violation of the ratio of normal and pathological microflora of the vagina can be contaminated water of water bodies, especially leaking ones. Subcooling can also make a significant “contribution”. Gynecological problems may appear after bathing in cold water. It is also dangerous to sit on the ground or evening beach for a long time, laying only a thin blanket.
The risk of exacerbation of vaginal diseases is also great for those women who wear synthetic underwear and thongs in the heat. Another common cause of exacerbations is poor hygiene. On trains, on excursions, on hikes, it’s sometimes difficult for us to adhere to the usual daily routine. Necessary water treatments are not always available.
Excessive hygiene is not always necessary. Excessive enthusiasm for douching, frequent use of soap means lead to a change in the normal acidic environment of the vagina to neutral or alkaline, which violates the ratio of beneficial lactic acid bacteria and conditionally harmful other inhabitants to the latter.
Protective measures
To find out the exact cause of the discharge and itching, go through an examination, make a smear. A variety of pathogens can be identified in it, including several at once. For example, activation of both fungal and bacterial microflora is often noted.
Sometimes discharge and itching accompany thrush, sometimes bacterial vaginosis. But in some cases, bacterial vaginitis is also detected, that is, inflammation of the vaginal mucosa. In smears with vaginitis, an increased number of leukocytes is always noted.
With a confirmed diagnosis, you will have to undergo a course of treatment. Usually apply local drugs in a certain sequence. Most often, treatment is limited to the use of local funds.
Recently, a new domestic original drug has appeared on the pharmaceutical market for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis and vaginitis — Flagyl. It allows you to simultaneously solve the problem of treating vaginal infections, because it combines three active components at once: recombinant interferon, metronidazole (antimicrobial) and has a complex effect on the entire possible spectrum of microorganisms, which are the most common causative agents of vaginal infections.
During the course of treatment, as well as after its completion, it is also desirable to normalize the work of the intestine. Therefore, doctors often prescribe a course of taking probiotics, which contain useful live bacteria. It is also recommended to reduce the proportion of sweets in the diet and eat fermented milk products daily.
The nuances of prevention
To reduce the risk of new exacerbations of vaginosis and vaginitis, swim only in clean ponds. Be sure to keep the lower half of the body warm and change clothes immediately after leaving the water.
Try to sunbathe wisely. Remember that excess ultraviolet light reduces the body’s resistance to any infection. Avoid synthetic underwear and thongs on hot days. They can cause minor injuries of the mucosa and provoke the entry of pathogenic bacteria into the vagina. Therefore, in everyday life it is advisable to wear ordinary cotton or microfiber swimming trunks with cotton gusset.
